Our United Way 23rd Day of Caring took place on Tuesday, May 1st.
With 582 volunteers, 69 businesses involved and over 2767.5 hours worked! We had a record year. Our day started at 8:00AM at the Community Building. The Ladies from our Art and Flower Garden Club had the place beautifully decorated. Breakfast was provided by Knepp’s Restaurant with biscuit and gravy. Senior & Family Services and RSVP volunteers were serving breakfast and lunch. After a hearty start, our volunteers fanned out to go to their assigned place of work. With wonderful weather all outdoor jobs could be worked on and most of them were finished to everyone’s satisfaction.
Ben Miller, director for Camp Illiana, provided pizza for all youth volunteers working at his location. He was also generous to fund a Taco bar, catered by Mi Pueblo, to serve lunch for everyone at the Community Building and his camp. Thank you, Ben!
Our appreciation does not only go out to all our volunteers, but we are thankful for our sponsors-German American Bank, NASCO, Terri Kelso Insurance, and Wal Mart.
It’s wonderful to see the Day of Caring in its 23rd year and that it’s one of our biggest service days which pulls our community together. Events like this make Daviess County a great place to call HOME!
